I saw Glass Candy in Portland two weeks ago with Chromatics and Desire. I'm surprised you didn't put "Under Your Spell" in this post. It was a solid show although Glass Candy really dominated as the headliner. They remind me of Starfucker, another Portland act, in that their recordings really don't do justice to their excellent live shows. Ida has this really great scream that she uses whenever the beat drops, and then everyone goes crazy. The backdrop onstage was this wall of full size 3x3x3 foot cardboard boxes with letters them spelling out all the band names. Like four rows, 20 boxes wide. Everyone got onstage during Warm in the Winter and some joker got behind the wall of boxes and pushed it forward onto the stage and then they tumbled into the crowd. Everyone started throwing them around, but boxes are not beach balls (they weigh 5-10 pounds each and have corners!) and it was total insanity. Ida was really worried someone would get hurt and started screaming "KILL THE BOXES!" Anyway, I later got to hang out backstage with them and they're super cool people. Ida and Johnny worked at Fred Meyer (Portland's KMart) for 10 years before their music took off!

#4 reminds me of Haruki Murakami's 1Q84, which features cult rituals done by elfin, androgynous people under the light of not one, but two moons! I now know what the soundtrack for that book would sound like, thank you.

Thanks and thanks! Just realized my copy of "Sleeping Pills" is m4a, which explains the difficulty, probably.

Your long paragraphs are worth wading through just to get to "Hey, turns out that I hate Lana del Rey!"

Yes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM_OWaItNJM
Okay, I think K-Holmes is partly in the video, but there is also footage from the feature film, Disturbing Behavior (in which she starred) interspersed with the video's on footage. Also, love the lemmings in letterman jackets going over the cliff and the double microphone....what a gem.

Was just thinking about this Flys track yesterday and then boom, I discover your post. Strangely it had come to mind because I randomly recalled that Katie Holmes (Mrs. Tom Cruise) was in the video for this song. Brilliant. Thanks for this post. It's a gem.
